Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Where is Higher Ground located?
We're everywhere you want to be.
We're based in Rome, GA but works throughout the southeast and in select locations both nationally and internationally. When it comes time to settle on a location, we'll work with you to handpick a locale based on things like group size, activities, seasonal considerations, and group preferences.

How much outdoor experience do I need?
None. Zip. Zilch. Zero.
No prior experience is required for any of our activities. We design all of our programs based on the experience level of the group, and teach you the skills you need to know.

Will I be forced to participate in an activity that scares me?
No, of course not. That hardly seems productive, now does it?
We believe that results are more profound and longer lasting when participants are given the opportunity to choose and embrace the appropriate level of challenge. And you can count on our instructors for the support and information you need to make a well-informed decision about how much challenge is right for you.

Seems like these activities require a little know-how...do you guys know what you're doing?
Of course.
Our instructors complete training for each discipline in which they work, in addition to obtaining wilderness medicine certifications. We adhere to industry standards put forth by the leading trade organizations such Association for Experiential Education (AEE), Professional Climbing Instructors Association (PCIA), Leave No Trace (LNT), Association for Challenge Course Technology (ACCT), and American Camping Association (ACA).

Do I have to have my own equipment?
Stop, now that's just silly. Who makes clients throw down cash for all that pricey gear? We provide all of the major gear and equipment. Participants are only responsible for clothing and personal items. Our gear is pretty sweet, too.

How much does a Higher Ground experience cost?
Not as much as you might think.
Our programs offer incredible value for the money, at costs below that of organizations of similar caliber. Since programs are tailored to the specifics of each group, pricing does fluctuate though. Give us a call and we can offer suggestions to help you get the most bang for your buck.

What size group can Higher Ground accommodate?
Well now that depends—what did you have in mind?
We work with groups of all sizes. Some groups are as small as 5 people, while others are well over 100 folks. Each group size brings with it its own set of opportunities and considerations. Give us a call to discuss the program options for your group.

Does Higher Ground only work with “Christian” groups?
Now why would we do that? We happily work with both “Christian” and “Secular” groups. We understand that for many reasons some groups focus is on things like leadership development, team-building, personal growth, and the like. Our ability to customize programs ensures that your group will get an experience that's geared specifically to your goals and objectives.

Are programs offered year-round, or only during the summer?
We're here all year—come and get it.
Spring and fall are some of the best times of the year for a mountain adventure, and believe it or not, winter isn't out of the question either. In many cases we can make adjustments to programming to compensate for seasonal conditions.

Is my donation to Higher Ground tax-deductible?
Oh yeah.
We're a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. All donations are tax deductible and will be receipted at the end of the year. Visit our Support page for more information on supporting Higher Ground financially, or click below to give right now.
